The Israeli occupation police have notified all principals of UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) schools in the Shuafat refugee camp in Jerusalem of closure orders to take effect within 30 days.
According to Palestinian sources, the occupation authorities ordered UNRWA school administrations in Shuafat camp to transfer students to schools affiliated with the Israeli-run Jerusalem municipality.
Just a week ago, UNRWA reported that its headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem had once again been deliberately set on fire, amid ongoing and systematic Israeli incitement against the agency that has persisted for months.
The agency stated that “this condemned act comes in the context of systematic incitement that has been ongoing for months,” and warned that UN staff and facilities in the West Bank are facing increasing threats.
UNRWA also noted that its staff were “forced in January 2025 to evacuate the headquarters as Israeli laws targeting the agency’s work came into effect, in conjunction with repeated assaults, harassment, and threats".
