With Over 1,000 Participants, "Al-Sumoud" Campaign Launches from Tunisia to Break Gaza Siege
This morning, an international campaign titled "Al-Sumoud" (The Steadfastness) was launched from the Tunisian capital, featuring the participation of more than 1,000 activists from various countries. The symbolic initiative aims to break the Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2007.
The event saw the participation of representatives from international human rights organizations, political and labor figures, as well as young activists from Europe, Latin America, and Arab countries, expressing their solidarity with the Palestinian people amid the ongoing aggression against Gaza.
The campaign includes organizing symbolic marches, humanitarian aid convoys, and legal and human rights seminars, in addition to a series of media events aimed at highlighting what the organizers described as "war crimes" committed against Palestinian civilians, especially amid the recent aggression.
Ziad Al-Akkari, one of the campaign coordinators from Tunisia, said in a statement to reporters:
"This initiative is a message of steadfastness from Tunisia to Gaza... a message that free peoples reject the siege and refuse to remain silent about daily massacres."
The "Al-Sumoud" convoy is expected to head in the coming days to ports on the Mediterranean Sea, as part of arrangements to join European and international maritime movements supporting Gaza, similar to the "Madleen" flotilla that was recently intercepted by the Israeli navy.
The organizers confirmed that the campaign is entirely peaceful and based on international humanitarian law and the right of peoples to solidarity and breaking sieges, noting ongoing coordination with human rights bodies at the United Nations and the European Union to ensure participant protection.
